Distributed Learning Program
Wartburg offers a distributed learning opportunity for students who are unable to move at this time, but who may do so later. Students complete the first three years of the program with a combination of online and intensive courses. Online courses typically cover 12 instructional weeks and on-campus intensives are typically one week, and sometimes two weeks, in length. The three years of distributed learning are followed by a year-long internship arranged in cooperation with the student's synod. In the final year of the five-year program, students join the dynamic educational and formation process as members of the Wartburg campus community.
Year 1 (Distributed, 19 semester hours)
FALL TERM (September - January)
Fall Prolog Week (early September): 1 credit at WTS (1 course)
September - December: 6 credits online (3 courses)
January Intensives: 3 credits at WTS (3 courses)
SPRING TERM (February - June)
Spring Prolog Week (early February): 1 credit at WTS (1 course)
February - May: 6 credits online (2 courses)
June Intensives: 3 credits at WTS (2 courses)
SUMMER: Students will also engage in Biblical Greek Language Study this summer, either through an online course or a residential course (unless they have already completed this prerequisite).
Year 2 (Distributed, 19 or 21 semester hours)
FALL TERM (September - January)
Fall Prolog Week (early September): 1 credit of Greek exegesis on campus (as part of BI 191)
September - December: 6 credits online (2 courses)
January: Cross Cultural requirement (3 credits/one course, on-campus or as a travel course)
SPRING TERM (February - May)
Spring Prolog Week (early February): no requirement
February - May: 6 credits online (2 courses)
SUMMER: Either a unit of CPE (6 credits) or on-campus pastoral care and spiritual practices intensives in June (2 courses totallying 4 credits)
Year 3 (Distributed, 22 or 24 semester hours)
FALL TERM (September - January)
Fall Prolog Week (early September): 1 credit on campus (1 course)
September - December: 6 credits online (3 courses)
January: Completion of a 2nd J-Term course (3 credits)
SPRING TERM (February - May)
Spring Prolog Week (early February): 1 credit on campus (1 course)
February - May: 6 credits online (2 courses)
SUMMER: Either on-campus pastoral care and spiritual practices intensives in June (2 courses totaling 4 credits) or a unit of CPE (6 credits)
Year 4
Internship (27 credits) - Off Campus at a church arranged by the seminary for 12 months
Year 5 (Residential, minimum of 26 semester hours)
FALL SEMESTER: at least 11.5 credits on campus
JANUARY INTERIM: Completion of a 3rd J-Term course (3 credits)
SPRING SEMESTER: at least 11-13 credits on campus
Total Number of Credits = 115 semester hours
