The archives of Wartburg Theological Seminary contain the archival records of the seminary; the German Lutheran Synod of Iowa, 1854-1930; and Region 5 of the ELCA which covers the states of Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Upper Michigan.
Particularly valuable collections include:
- The papers, correspondence, sermons, and writings of J. Michael Reu, a professor of Wartburg Seminary, 1899-1943
- The Iowa Synod Correspondence file—about 10,000 letters to the leadership of the Iowa Synod, 1850-1900
- More than 20 original letters from Wilhelm Loehe, many translated; and
- The actual records of over 100 dissolved congregations in the ELCA Region 5 area.
