| BIO: |
|
Duane Larson is President of Wartburg Theological Seminary, Dubuque, Iowa. With more than 25 years of leadership in civic, religious and academic organizations throughout the country, Duane is increasingly recognized for his thoughtful and strategic advocacy for a healthier society. Beyond his representation of one of the church's most creative and vigorous seminaries, Duane has been a key consultant in the shaping of new leadership for the denomination and beyond. His public-speaking and numerous publications address the topics of leadership cultivation, strategic planning, organizational development, bio-ethics, science and religion, social analysis and public policy.
Duane has led Wartburg Seminary itself into exemplary training of southern hemisphere church and society leadership for infrastructural development. New signature commitments of the seminary in this area include training in global economics and public health for developing countries, and unique efforts to redress HIV/AIDS, TB and Malaria by training lay and clergy leaders in health asset mapping in developing countries.
Prior to Wartburg Seminary, Duane has served as a congregational pastor and a professor of theology. He has served on the Board of Directors of North Bay Rehabilitation Services, several other California community development efforts, and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Strasbourg (France) Ecumenical Institute and the Editorial Board of dialog, A Journal of Theology. Duane is a graduate of Pacific Lutheran University (B.A.), Luther Northwestern Theological Seminary (M.Div.), and The Graduate Theological Union (Ph.D.). He also studied at the University of Minnesota, Oxford University, and the Harvard Institute for Higher Education Administration. He participates in the Association of Lutheran Development Executives, The American Association for the Advancement of Science, and is an active member of The American Academy of Religion.
