Program

We are Stewards of the Kingdom.  And just which kingdom would that be? Church leaders need information and experiential training in sound stewardship understanding and principles for themselves and tools to re-create this with their parishioners. Too often we try and avoid the subject of stewardship and money. This annual lecture series will provide practical and contextual in-depth learning opportunities in an interactive format, exploring a number of stewardship-themed topics and issues with one of the top professionals in the field.

Presenter

Dr. Mark Allan Powell

PowellChurch leaders, both clergy and laity, need information about financial fitness for themselves and the tools to recreate this with their parishioners.  Too often we try and avoid the subject of stewardship and money.  This year’s lecture series welcomes Mark Allan Powell, the Robert and Phyllis Leatherman Professor of New Testament at Trinity Lutheran Seminary, as he presents contemporary and new practical skills for church leaders. He has authored over two dozen publications including Giving to God: The Good News of Biblical Stewardship.

Powell offers a “No-Gimmicks” approach to stewardship that:

-       focuses on more than just “how to get
        people’s money”

-       moves beyond the rhetoric of “more, more, more!”

-       replaces guilt with gratitude

-       inculcates the spiritual fruit of generosity

-       recaptures the offering as an act of worship

-       transforms duty into delight

Words from last year’s participants...

“Good suggestions for spiritual growth.”

“This prompts me to revisit my own giving attitudes.”

“I wish I had brought my whole stewardship committee.”

“This helped me to look again at my own understanding of stewardship.”

“The time for sharing was appreciated.  We always learn through others’ experiences.”
