Master of Arts in Diaconal Ministry Distributed Learning Program  

Wartburg offers a distributed learning opportunity for students currently serving in ministry settings or who may not be in a position to relocate to Dubuque. All coursework is taken as a distributed learner over a three-year period, plus any additional time needed for completion of fieldwork.*

Year 1

(Distributed, 21 semester hours)
FALL TERM (September – January)
Fall Prolog Week (early September): 1 credit on campus (1 course)
September – December: 6 credits online (2 courses)
January Intensives: 5 credits on campus (4 courses)
SPRING TERM (February – June)
Spring Prolog Week (early February): 1 credit on campus (1 course)
February – May: 6 credits online (2 courses)
June Intensives: 4 credits on campus (3 courses)
SUMMER: Start of Fieldwork Experience

Year 2

(Distributed, 20 semester hours)
FALL TERM (September – January)
Fall Prolog Week (early September): no requirement
September – December: 6 credits online (2 courses)
January: Diaconal Ministry Formation Event (3 credits, at LTSG, Pennsylvania) or Cross-Cultural Requirement (on-campus or travel course)
SPRING TERM (February – June)
Spring Prolog Week (early February): no requirement
February – May: 6 credits online (2 courses)
June Intensives 5 credits on campus (3 courses)
SUMMER: CPE or more Fieldwork Experience

Year 3

(Distributed, 21 semester hours)
FALL TERM (September – January)
Fall Prolog Week (early September): 1 credit on campus (1 course)
September – December: 3 credits online (2 courses), plus starting a 2-credit course intensive that will span the academic year
January: Cross Cultural Requirement (if not already completed; one 3 credit on-campus or travel course) or Diaconal Ministry Formation Event (if needed and not already completed)
SPRING TERM (February – June)
Spring Prolog Week: (early February) 1 credit on campus (1 course)
February – May: 6 credits online (2 courses)
Summer and Onward: Completion of research and writing of your diaconal ministry project, plus any additional needed coursework and fieldwork to complete this 77 semester-hour degree

Total Number of Credits = 77 semester hours
