A Record of Faith and Formation

Preserving the history, people, and stories that have shaped Wartburg Theological Seminary since 1840.

The Archives of Wartburg Theological Seminary serve as the collective memory of the institution, documenting its history from its earliest roots in 1840 to the present day.

These holdings include personal files, historical documents, photographs, and selected records that reflect the life of the Seminary and the individuals who have taught, studied, and served here over generations.

In addition to Seminary records, the Archives preserve documents from the German Lutheran Synod of Iowa (1854–1930) and the antecedent bodies of the ELCA Region 5.

The collections encompass correspondence, sermons, writings, maps, drawings, ordination records, congregation anniversaries, and other materials that together tell the ongoing story of the Seminary’s past and present.
