About With Ears to Hear
At the beginning of Paul’s First Letter to the Corinthians, he reflects on his time with the Christian community in Corinth. Part of his reflection is this:
When I came to you, brothers and sisters, I did not come proclaiming the mystery of God to you in lofty words or wisdom. For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and him crucified. (1 Cor 2.1-2, NRSV)
At the heart of the Christian faith, the gospel of Jesus Christ, and Christian community is the cross of Christ. The cross in the ear – thelogo – symbolizes the centrality of the cross for every sermon – both its preaching and its hearing.
