Clinical Program of Wartburg Theological Seminary (CPW)
Wartburg Theological Seminary is offers two sessions of the Clinical Program of WTS (CPW), an equivalent to meeting the CPE requirement, in a distributed format for TEEM students during the academic year.
What it is:
This program will be guided by ACPE standards, but adopted for this format of education that Wartburg is using in lieu of accredited CPE, for persons in special situations. All clinical experience will be done through visits made by the students in their local community, with weekly group interactions through interactive technology. The unit will begin with a mandatory formation retreat and end with a mandatory evaluation retreat, both at Wartburg Seminary. This program through Wartburg is not ACPE Accredited, but may be recognized by your synod.
Goals for the unit:
Formation, emphasis on growth in self-awareness and increase in individuation.
Role Formation, understanding of self in leadership, system dynamics, movement toward becoming a church that grows in shalom and is a caring environment.
Knowledge Growth—of particular understandings such as family systems, shame dynamics, chemical dependency, cultural clashes, leadership, and the role of play.
Group interaction will take place once a week through interactive technology. The goal is to learn to use the virtual group for support, clarification and challenge. A second form of interaction will be through text posts. Students will process verbatims, cases, etc. through this medium. Individual supervision will be through a mix of the two forms of communication.
Who it is for?
Any student currently admitted as a TEEM student at WTS or LSPS who has not completed CPE. Priority will be given to students for which Traditional CPE is only available at extreme hardship and/or for those nearing the end of the program. There are a limited number of spots available. Please confirm with your candidacy committee that CPW will be accepted by your synod.
