Considering Your Call Weekend
March 14, 2015 - March 16, 2015
We invite you to consider your call for a weekend in the midst of the Wartburg Theological Seminary community. The ‘Considering Your Call’ Weekend (CYC) is a great opportunity to experience Wartburg’s campus life while connecting with other individuals currently discerning God’s call.
This retreat will provide a picture of what Wartburg Seminary offers while providing you with tools and resources for continued discernment as to how God is calling you. There will be opportunities to tour campus, talk with current students, meet with our admissions staff, talk with professors, consult with our financial aid officer, and explore the many educational opportunities within our curriculum. You will be invited to join us in worship, sit in on a class or two, experience what our community has to offer, and to share your own story with others who will share their call stories.
Presentations will help inform you about Financial Aid opportunities, give you information about the ELCA Candidacy Process, and help you identify the gifts you bring with you into your call to ministry. Fellowship and community are a central way we bring about this learning, allowing ample time for discussing gifts and call to ministry with others.
Knowing how important people close to us can be in our discernment process, we welcome you to bring your spouse, pastor, relatives, or friends who are walking with you in your decision. We will make all the necessary arrangements for them to join you in this exploration.
Some of our current students wanted to share their experiences of CYC with you. Here is what they had to say:
“The Wartburg Considering Your Call weekend was instrumental in making the vague notion of attending seminary become a real possibility. I was particularly affected by the numerous opportunities to share ideas, thoughts, and experiences with students, faculty, staff, and fellow discerners. When I heard that Wartburg was ready to embrace me and support me in whatever context I found myself, I knew I was ‘home.’”
– AMY HEINZ
“I attended the CYC weekend based on the recommendation of a pastor who had attended WTS. Participating in CYC helped me to answer a lot of questions regarding my own sense of call while also introducing me to Wartburg Seminary’s worship-centered community. Having the opportunity to spend time with dedicated and caring faculty and staff helped me to recognize that WTS was the place I was called to be. The key for me was actually coming to WTS. Living the WTS experience changed everything for me, due in large part to the fact that everyone at WTS took a genuine interest in the participants. I was especially impressed with the faculty and staff who engaged with us throughout the weekend. At WTS I felt valued as a future colleague in ministry whose gifts would be honed and called forth in a community of diverse individuals called to participate in God’s mission for the world.”
