Exploring Faith Online Fall Courses

Looking to take a course?

Wanting to strengthen your understanding of Scripture? Theology? Ministry?

Wartburg Theological Seminary offers Exploring Faith, online and intensive courses open to everyone.
October 1 – December 1, 2018

Enrollment:

An expected minimum of eight or more students is normally needed for a course to be held (and so the course could be subject to cancellation if fewer students before the courses start on October 1), up to a maximum of 15 students in each course.  Multiple students from a church or organization are encouraged to register, although there is no reduction in tuition per student.

If you have questions about either course or have problems with registration, please contact the WTS Registrar.

Certificate Programs
Perhaps you are looking to take several courses and combine them to earn a certificate in a ministry specialty area.  See more details at Certificate Programs.

CE 023E The Gospel According to John, the Pastor
This course meets the general Bible or New Testament requirements for the various Exploring Faith certificate programs.

Burton Everist, instructor

Instructor’s description: To fearful and hopeless early Christians John spoke the Word of hope.  Jesus provided a place of refuge and strength as John wrote: “These signs are written so that you may keep trusting Jesus, the Messiah, the Son of God.” (John 20:31 paraphrase) This hope-filled Gospel empowers anxious Christians today.  This course will give you tools to dig deeper into this great Gospel so that your own trust in Christ will grow.

CE 043E Introduction to Christologies in a Global Context
This course meets the general Theology requirement for the various Exploring Faith certificates.

Man Hei Yip, instructor

Instructor’s description: Christology is the study of Jesus Christ – his identity, ministry, teachings, and significance. This course will lead participants to reflect on the person and work of Jesus in global contexts. We will discuss the challenges posed to Christology by complex realities, such as social violence, political instability, economic hardship, environmental degradation, and religious pluralism. Participants will gain insight into the main ideas, key theologians, and specific methodologies involved in the formulation of the various Christologies. Participants will also contribute to the Christological debate in light of the themes explored throughout the course for the life of Christian discipleship and the growth of the church. No prerequisites are required to take this course.

Each course costs $210.  Both courses start October 1 and go through to December 1 (which is nine weeks total, of which 8 weeks are for instruction, plus a break during the week of Thanksgiving).

If you have previously taken Exploring Faith or TEEM courses from us before, then you can register directly for one or both courses using the MyWTS web portal.

If you have not taken a course from us before (or not in many years), then you will first need to fill out a form to become a general certificate student, which includes being assigned a login account needed to access the MyWTS web portal to register for the actual course.  Please complete the Certificate Programs application, selecting your program either to enter a specific certificate program (if that is your goal) or as a non-designated student just taking some certificate courses.
