So, how am I going to pay for this? Jesus calls us to be stewards and planners in any endeavor.

Which of you, intending to build a tower, does not first sit down and estimate the cost, to see whether he has enough to complete it? (Luke 14:28, NRSV)

At Wartburg we help people attend seminary with as little debt as possible and help students graduate with one of the lowest average debt amounts among the ELCA seminaries.

We will accompany, advocate for and work with you to create a sensible plan that allows you to move toward your calling in a way that is as financially sound is possible.

Through pre-planning and conversation, we’ll help you move toward scholarships, a manageable budget, and praying through who might be called to serve as a benefactor in your formation.  This can actually be a gift to them in a way you might not expect.  Oftentimes your home congregation, synod, the ELCA, friends and family are excited to be a part of this adventure, all the while helping you be smart about seminary.

Wartburg Theological Seminary awards renewable scholarships to 100% of eligible students, and rasises $800,000 annually to offset the cost of tuition for our students.  If you choose to be a residential student here, rent, utilities, internet and phone come together affordably.

Please call or e-mail for a free financial consultation as a perspective student, and let us know along the way if you need help.  You don’t need to be eating Ramen noodles–well, at least not every day.  We’re here to help.

It’s always a great idea to seek out additional funding sources.  We maintains a list of outside scholarship opportunities.

If you’re enrolled in a degree program, in good academic standing, and meet the minimum course requirements, you are eligible to apply for federal financial aid.  To do this you’ll need to complete the FAFSA annually.

You may be eligible for William D. Ford Direct Stafford Loans, Graduate PLUS loans, and ANB Institutional loans or work study.  We also participate in the US Department of Veteran’s Affairs VA Education Benefits programs.
