The Archives of Wartburg Seminary ELCA Region 5 share the same archivist and physical space. The materials housed in Region 5 and Wartburg Seminary Archives complement each other. Given the large number of Region 5 congregations with a historical connection to the Iowa Synod, many requests for information about Region 5 congregations and their history involve consulting items from both of these collections.
Collections specific to the Region 5 Archives include membership records and other materials from closed congregations of the ELCA and its predecessors/antecedent bodies. We receive many requests for proof of membership, baptism, confirmation and marriage from disbanded congregations. We also house Synod records such as files of deceased rostered leaders, minutes of Synod Assemblies, and membership directories.
