Wartburg Theological Seminary, a seminary of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, is searching for a new faculty colleague to serve as Assistant Professor of Latinx Theology and Ministry to begin in Spring 2020. The search and hire of this new faculty member foregrounds the commitment of WTS to emerging theologies and expansive approaches to church leadership. This position requires skill and commitment for teaching both in one’s academic discipline and across disciplines to form all students with competence for global engagement. Because WTS values and supports interdisciplinary teaching, this position is intentionally open to scholars across a variety of academic disciplines, including biblical studies, practical theology, systematic theology, church history, and missiology.
The addition of an Assistant Professor of Latinx Theology and Ministry to the faculty will increase the capacity of WTS to form and educate leaders for the 21st century church. While WTS has a long-standing commitment to Hispanic ministry through the establishment of the Lutheran Seminary Program in the Southwest since the 1970s, this professor will bring new focus to the work of the entire faculty and seminary curriculum to address the changing demographics in the U.S. There are many levels of complexity to cross-cultural education and partnerships. This faculty member will bring wisdom for us to enter this collaborative and ecumenical work with new insight and skill. Rev. Dr. Craig Nessan, Academic Dean, shares, “We are excited as a faculty to welcome this new professor to bring expertise both in an academic area and for the deepening of our shared commitment to leadership development for Latinx ministry.”
The Search Committee will begin reviewing applications in November 2019 and continue until the search process is completed. For questions about the position or description, contact Rev. Dr. Craig Nessan, Academic Dean at email@example.com. Please submit application materials (cover letter, resume, and three references) to the Director of Human Resources at HR@wartburgseminary.edu.
