Our beloved professor, colleague, and friend the Rev. Dr. Ann Fritschel will be retiring from full time service at the end of this 2021-2022 academic year. She has served at Wartburg Seminary as Professor of Hebrew Bible since 1997, as Director of the Center for Theology and Land since 2010, and as holder of the Rev. Dr. Frank L. & Joyce S. Benz Chair in Scripture since 2014. As Dr. Fritschel concludes this chapter, she anticipates enjoying a new chapter of life that includes part-time parish ministry and tutoring in the public school system, among other things.

  • A book of letters is being gathered in honor of Dr. Fritschel’s retirement. The letters will be collated and bound in a volume, which will be presented at the end of the semester. You are invited to contribute a letter to this collection. We ask only that you compose the letter on one 8.5 x 11″ page, which is the expected form for all submissions due to the collation process. You may either email your letter as an attachment to the Office of the President (officeofthepresident@wartburgseminary.edu) or mail it to Wartburg Seminary, c/o the President’s Office (333 Wartburg Pl, Dubuque, IA 52003). We wish to receive all letters no later than Monday, April 25th, so that they can be presented to Dr. Fritschel as close to the end of the semester as possible.
  • Please reserve Thursday, May 5th, 4:30-7:00pm (Central Standard Time) for an event at Wartburg Seminary to honor and celebrate Dr. Fritschel upon her retirement. The event entails a brief service of evening prayer in Loehe Chapel, followed by dinner and a program which will include greetings from various faculty, alums, students, and friends. Please RSVP by April 25th to: officeofthepresident@wartburgseminary.edu. If you are unable to attend in person the service and program will be accessible by Zoom at: https://wartburgseminary.zoom.us/j/7709719135?pwd=WlVVampTWlNySG45L3FOWCs1RlNmUT09.

Please direct questions either to the President’s Office (officeofthepresident@wartburgseminary.edu) or to Troy Troftgruben (ttroftgruben@wartburgseminary.edu).

Thank you kindly for your attention to these matters as we prepare to celebrate the retirement of the Rev. Dr. Ann Fritschel.

Blessings,

The Rev. Kristin Johnston Largen, PhD, and the Rev. Troy M. Troftgruben, PhD
